Analyze a learning progression for success during classroom formative assessments or district benchmark assessments of the PE. Performance Expectations – Understand the shift in the NGSS from content knowledge to a focus on performance expectations. NGSS 102 – Delve deeper into the intent and design of NGSS and some of its supporting appendices, analyze key instructional shifts, and reflect on how to adapt available resources to assist in planning for instructional changes. Learn how to read the architecture of the NGSS and example key components. NGSS 101 – Become aware of the National Research Council’s A Framework for K-12 Science Education and the development, intent, and design of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) adopted by California. Rollout #1 was presented in 2014 and consisted of the following sessions: CA NGSS Rollout #1: CA NGSS Awareness (April - December 2014).CA NGSS Rollout #2: From Awareness to Transition (April - December 2015).CA NGSS Rollout #3: From Transition to Implementation (April - December 2016).CA NGSS Rollout #4: Using the CA Science Framework (April - December 2017).Accelerating Into NGSS #1.5: (Winter 2017 - Spring 2018).CA NGSS Rollout #6: Environmental Literacy (Fall 2019). See tabs in the resources archive below for more information. The learning sessions are divided into four science and literacy-specific strands (reading, notebooking, discourse, and argumentation). The online experience is 12 hours in total and is offered with different meeting options during the school year (see below for dates and times). It is recommended that educators register as teams in order to fully bring this professional learning into their school and district systems. Participants will register for a grade band to allow their conversations to focus on the needs of a student group at the center of their system. And they will explore the use of tools that allow for the analysis of strengths and limitations of science tasks, as well as examining assessments with a lens of equity. They will engage in thinking about assessment as a system in order to have a holistic understanding of where students are at in terms of three-dimensional learning. The learning sessions include grade band assessment experiences that allow participants to develop a shared understanding of the productive use of assessment to inform instruction. The California NGSS Statewide Implementation: Coherent and Student-Centered Science Assessment System is an online professional learning experience designed for K-12 academic coaches, administrators, curriculum leads, and teacher leaders to deepen their understanding and implementation of science assessment in classrooms, schools, districts, and the state.
