Sistermon awakened tcg10/5/2023 She not only looks like an actual nun, but open-carries two large guns shaped like holy crucifixes and shoots people with them. I'm going to say it's either one of two reasons, neither to do entirely with the color: Additionally, Seraphimon's DigiCode breechcloth quote references a statement linked to the videogame Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth character, who himself possesses allusions to religion). Maybe my experience is limited, but honestly, from my experience, any time that I've heard the word "angel" (aside from a beautiful girl / really-nice-person / person-who-closely-monitors-or-saved-somebody's-life type of context or connotation), either the mention is somehow referring to/inspired by the religious/Judeo-Christian concept of angels (tied in with the traditional golden-halo-and-white-robe outfit), or the mention is referring to the creatures of the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga/anime (or related spin-offs and even those "angels" of NGE arguably reference Christianity).Įven though Pit from the Kid Icarus franchise largely derives from Greek (and Roman?) mythology and influences, I feel like Pit himself could easily pass for the traditional "look" of an angel (at least as how humans tend to depict the good-natured ones).Īnd in any case, the seemingly most prominent angel-related figures in the Digimon franchise (Angemon, MagnaAngemon, Seraphimon, Angewomon, Ophanimon, and Cherubimon) are explicitly referencing religion (particularly the Christian religion and/or Biblically-related religions) by: mere virtue of Angemon being juxtaposed in opposition with Devimon (most notably in Digimon Adventure), Angewomon being juxtaposed in opposition with LadyDevimon, and the numerous references to terms that are tied with and/or related to Christian and/or Biblical usage (MagnaAngemon's Priest Mode, seraphim, ophanim, cherubim, the many references to Heaven in things like Digimon techniques (Heaven's Knuckle, Heaven's Charm, Heaven's Gate, 7 Heavens), and the quote on Seraphimon's breechcloth. There are literally dozens of fan-created Digimon that won contests to become official Digimon, and yet a number of them haven't even received official art.īut nah, it's cool, just give us another Omegamon variant and we'll be all peachy. Bandai is so focused on showcasing Digimon that are already popular, that those Digimon have overstayed their welcome, and they're forgetting to give focus to other Digimon that have the potential to be popular but haven't been utilized in interesting ways. That's the issue here - wasted potential. Do you think anyone would actually give a crap about, say, Gomamon if he hadn't been a main character in the anime? Somehow I doubt it. You could argue that the unused Digimon aren't very interesting, sure, but that's because Bandai/Toei have never tried to make them interesting by actually including them in media. Instead, they continually focus on the dozen or so Digimon that test best with focus groups, and while that works fine for newcomers who maybe aren't aware of the franchise's history, it's really irritating for longtime fans to see the same Digimon over and over when there are plenty of underutilized Digimon sitting and collecting dust. I know that's the case with the Olympus XII - the lore sets them up as a fairly predominant group in the Digital World that has a dynamic and intersecting backstories, but Bandai has never tried to actually write a story surrounding them beyond their profiles. I don't agree in the case of Sistermon, but I could see it happening. ![]() If you consider yourself a Sistermon fan, I want to know why.įans likely see potential in them or just like their designs. I see people talking about them, Facebook and Twitter comments are riddled with people upset about this censoring, and I just don't get it.ĮDIT: Don't downvote and run. ![]() ![]() They're Olympus XII level of "fans are really obsesed with them for no particular reason." People freaked out with tears of joy when they first popped up in Hacker's Memory screenshots and trailers and I even heard someone say, "Okay, now Hacker's Memory is worth it" as if the Sistermons were their favoritest Digimon EVER. I have no idea who these Sistermons are or where they came from and I really have no idea why they seem to be so popular. Started one of the first Digimon podcasts, the one and only Digimon convention, got a whole corner of the apartment dedicated to toys and cards my wife would rather I stop buying, got a PS4 JUST for Cyber Sleuth. I consider myself a pretty big Digimon fan.
